Vaginal thrush is a infection of the vagina caused by “Candida albicans” is also known as volvovaginal candidiasis . It is assocaite with dermatitis of the vulva. Vaginal Thrush , Monilia and vulvovaginal candidosis are also the same name for the condition caused by candida albicans infection.
VAGINAL DISCHARGE CAUSES
Most of the women often notice a dicharge from the vagina. This is a norma; process which keeps the mucous lining of the vagina moist. The discharge is usually clear but may dry on undercloths leaving a faint yellowish mark. Normal discharge doesn’t need any medication but if it increases it needs to treat. The vaginal discharge is also known as Leucorrhoea.
When the vaginal discharge is due to some microorganisms it needs treatment , these microorganisma are
Candida albicans – causes vulvovaginal candidiasis
Trichomoniasis – causes Trichomonas vaginalis. Fishy or offensive odour and yellow , green or frothy discharge.
Bacterial Vaginosis – this causes a thin , white /grey discharge and offensive odour. It is due to the imbalance of the amounts of bacteria which live in the vagina.
Excexssive vaginal discharge may also be due to injury , foreign body and other causes of vaginitis.
CAUSES OF VULVOVAGINAL CANDIDIASIS
The candida albicans may suffer the non-pregnant women age 15 to 55 . most have the no symptoms and it is harmless to them. Overgrowth of the Candida albicans causes a heavy white curd like vaginal discharge , burning sensation in the vagina and icthy rash on the vulva and the surrounding skin. Oestrogen causes the lining of the vagina to mature and to contain glycogen on which candida albicans thrives. Lack of oestrogen in younger and older women makes vulvovaginal candidiasis much less common.
