Diagnosis of Psoriasis

DIAGNOSIS  OF  PSORIASIS
 The diagnosis of Psoriasis is usually based on the clinical features and the appearance of the skin . The silvery scales of psoriasis are very distinctive feature for the diagnosis.
Family history of psoriasis is very important for diagnosis as it spreads in families as heridatory factor.
Skin biopsy of the lesion or scratching examined under microscope confirms the diagnosis. No special blood tests are available for the confirmation of the diagnosis.
If the scalp is affected , it may resembles with Seborrhoeic dermatitis , Dandruff , Eczema scalp or Lichen Planus. So differential diagnosis is always necessary for the psoriasis confirmation.

PSORIASIS TYPICAL PATTERENS
The typical featutes of the Psoriasis are red , silvery scaly patches on the skin , which  usually have well defined edges. Psoriasis have the different presentaions on the different parts of the body. These patterns would help to make the diagnosis and differential disgnosis from the other skin diseases.

Chronic Plaque Psoriasis – the large flat patches covered in  a scale , most often on elbows , knees and lower back are more affected areas.

Flexural Psoriasis – the smooth well defined patches in the body folds.

Scalp Psoriasis – the scaly plaques on the scalp counts one or more.

Acute Guttate Psoriasis – Small patches of psoriasis which are numerous and often widespread.

Sebopsoriasis – Overlap of the seborrhoeic dermatitis and psoriasis , it affects  the scalp , face , ears and chest.

Palmoplanter Psoriasis – The several patterns of the psorisis on the palms and soles.

Nail Psoriasis – Nail looks like Pitting , ridging , yellowish , onycholysis.

Intraoral Psoriasis – The desquamation inside the mouth , which is most often associated with the more severe form of cutaneous psoriasis.

Koebnerised Psoriasis – This types of features arised in healing wounda or scars.

Photosenstive Psoriasis – Psoriasis affecting the exposed areas to the sun.

Pustular Psoriasis – This is localised to palms and sole but may affects the extermities.

Erythrodermic Psoriasis – This is  the severe form of psoriasis that affects the whole skin of the body.

Psoriatic Arthritis – Joint Disorder , mild to severe pain related to Psoriasis.
